The files provided here have been tested on an IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T60 computer, type 2008, with Intel Core 2 Duo (64-bit) and ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 64 MB graphics (device ID 0x7149) running Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. They may work with other hardware configurations, but I haven't tried them.
First, a list of things that I have NOT been able to get working.
- Sleep mode
- Internal wi-fi (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG)
- Fingerprint reader
- Screen resolutions different than 1024*768
Video acceleration (AKA QE/CI, Quartz Extreme/Core Image)
I was able to patch the kext (= kernel extension) files for the ATI X1300 mobile graphics. All the files I found online were for different device IDs than mine, so I had to use a hex editor to patch the files myself. Just in case there's another person in the world who wants to get the video drivers working, I'm going to provide the file: ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 (device ID 7149) for 10.6.8. Extract it and install all those files (even the .bundle and .plugin files) using something like Kext Utility.
Bug: when switching to full-screen mode in some applications and then exiting, the mouse cursor may turn into a horizontal line of garbage that spans across the entire screen, so you know where it is on the Y axis of your screen (from top to bottom), but not on the X axis (from left to right).
The only workaround I know is rebooting: put your mouse all the way to the top left corner, click to open the Apple menu, then use the arrow keys and the Enter key to select the Restart option.
UltraNav with scrolling
Here is also a driver for the UltraNav (combination touchpad and TrackPoint, including scrolling with the TrackPoint): ThinkPad T60 UltraNav for 10.6.8.
I did not write or patch this. It's an edited version of the Voodoo PS2 Controller kext file I found on this forum post (or maybe it was another one, I did so much googling I don't remember exactly). I'm re-hosting it here in case it goes away.
Everything works fine, but the two pointing devices are always enabled and there doesn't seem to be a way to disable one of them (I always use the TrackPoint, I don't like the tiny touchpad).
How to install .kext files
Use Kext Utility. That program will copy your kext files to the folder /System/Library/Extensions and apply the right file permissions. Put your password when it asks to and restart your computer to see if it worked or not.
How to remove .kext files (even when Mac OS no longer starts up)
If your kext file(s) didn't work, go to the folder /System/Library/Extensions and delete the files you installed (don't touch anything else).
(Tip: if you sort the files in that folder by modified, the ones you added will be among the most recent ones, so you can find them more easily)
If your computer doesn't boot up at all (you get a kernel panic), you can still delete them: boot up in single user mode ("-s" option in the boot loader) and then type in: rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/FILE.kext
Replace FILE with your kext file's name. Then press Enter.
If you have more files, repeat this for every file you want to delete (you can press the up arrow key to avoid typing the same command over and over).
Then type "reboot" and press Enter again.
Dual boot
And in case you want to dual boot with Windows, you're going to want to re-install the boot loader to boot back into Mac OS. For this T60, I found that Chameleon RC5 works the best. Other boot loaders should be fine, but I haven't tested them.
Boot from your Hackintosh install DVD, choose your Mac OS partition (not the install DVD), then install Chameleon on your hard drive.
